Aesthetics of Decolonization Reading Group
2024-25
Sponsored by the Institute of Comparative Modernities at Cornell University, this reading group explores decolonization through art, visuality, and the built environment, and examines how imperialism and decolonization manifest in art, architecture, and cities. The group explores the meaning of decoloniality, and precisely what it means to decolonize in the realm of aesthetics. Readings span cultural theory, political theory, art history, and anthropology, focusing on theory-practice relations and material practices in decolonial attempts and struggles.
